The term group think occurs in a group whenever the group is more concerned with reaching a decision for a problem without critically examining the problem to discover more ways to solve the situation. The group think goal is to have little to no conflict and that everyone agrees without exploring others opinions, ideas, etc. There must be some sort of conflict to arrive at a decision. When everyone agrees to the same old thing this can essentially make the group ineffective. Some ways to avoid or reduce group think is to recognize that your group is experiencing group think. Then encourage critical, independent thinking. One way to keep the decision making process honest and avoid too much agreement is to have someone in the group play the devils advocate. The individual would be responsible for finding the loophole in a suggestion made by the group hopefully starting dialogue to enhance the decision
